What is the extended producer responsibility for batteries?
With the extended producer responsibility producers must ensure the proper collection and treatment of used batteries when they become waste. Either by financing the handling of battery waste or by organizing the collection and recycling themselves.
The extended producer responsibility for batteries is part of the EU Battery Regulation and the Danish Executive order on batteries.
Who is considered a producer?
Any company that manufactures or supplies batteries to the Danish market may have producer responsibility. Foreign companies selling batteries or products containing batteries directly to end users in Denmark have producer responsibility for batteries
Foreign companies with producer responsibility for batteries in Denmark are obliged to appoint an Authorised Representative
Foreign companies selling batteries directly to end users in Denmark must appoint an authorized representative in Denmark. The authorized representative is responsible for fulfilling all producer obligations, including registration and reporting.

Companies with producer responsibility for portable batteries and batteries for light means of transport are obliged to register with a Producer Responsibility Organisation
Companies selling portable batteries or batteries for light means of transport to end users in Denmark are obliged to register with a producer responsibility organization.
The producer responsibility organization can carry out the role as authorized representative as well.
For companies selling SLI-batteries, EV batteries or industrial batteries, registration with a producer responsibility organization is voluntary.
