Evaluation of health hazards by exposure to Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and proposal of a health-based quality criterion for soil

This report describes an evaluation of health hazards by exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), in order to get documentation for a health-based quality criterion in soil for PCB with focus on the PCB congeners of relevance in contaminated soil.

The report has been elaborated according to the general practice laid down in the Danish EPA guidance document for the setting of a health-based quality criterion for chemical substances in relation to soil, which is based on children’s ingestion of soil. The conclusion of this evaluation was that a health-based soil quality criterion based alone on children’s ingestion of soil contaminated with PCBs is considered not to be relevant.
