Survey and risk assessment of chemical substances in deodorants

Survey of Chemical Substances in Consumer Products, 86, 2007

The project investigates the occurrence of fragrance ingredients and preservatives in deodorants on the Danish marked. Of 97 products 65.9 % contained one or more of the 26 perfume substances that must be declared and 40 % contained preservatives. The most frequent used preservative was triclosan followed by parabenes and phenoxy ethanol. The risk assessment of selected allergens showed that the concentration in the products of these substances in some cases can pose a risk for persons suffering from allergy.
