The Effect of Esfenvalerate and Prochloraz on Amphibians with specialreference to Xenopus laevis and Bombina bombina

The FETAX test, which uses the South African frog, Xenopus, is the only internationally recognised testing method for assessing the effect of chemicals on amphibians. However as this test, in several regards, makes it difficult to relate results to Danish conditions, the purpose of this study is to develop a new test guideline using a test organism more relevant to European conditions. The fire-bellied toad Bombina was selected because it is widespread throughout Europe. The results have revealed that it is possible to breed Bombina throughout the year and get a sufficient number of embryos for ecotoxicological testing.
