Pesticides in Streams and Subsurface Drainage Water within Two Arable Catchments in Denmark: Pesticide Application Concentration Transport and Fate

Many pesticides are detected in Danish streams 49 pesticides and metabolites were measured in two Danish streams draining arable catchments. More than 40 different pesticides were detected in stream water with the highest detection frequencies, concentrations and losses in a small culverted stream draining a catchment with tile drains. Highest concentrations and losses of pesticides were measured during rainfall. A relationship was developed between pesticide loss and pesticide application and physico-chemical characteristics for each of the investigated catchments. Pesticide residues were detected in streambed sediment with increasing concentrations during the spring application season.
