Feminisation of fish


The report gives an overview of existing knowledge on endochrine disrupting chemicals in the aquatic environment. The report concludes that natural hormones and synthetic hormones used in contraceptives is the most likely explanation on feminisation in fish. The hormones are excreted with domestic sewage by women. Other chemicals with endochrine disrupting potential are not considered to play a significant role.
