Population Toxicology : Extrapolations from Laboratory to Field

Predicting field effects on population level from laboratory toxocity tests on individual level is hampered by the difference in biotic as well as abiotic conditions between the two situations. the report evaluates the importance of exposure, stage specific toxicity and persistence of two insecticides, dimethoate and cypermethrin, to the effect of applicatins in the field by use of experiments and modelling. Prediction of field effects based on acute toxicity measures underestimates the effects by a factor 10-50.
