Critical Variables in Soil Column Leaching Tests

The report describes a predominantly experimental study which, based on the German (BBA) and American (EPA) guidelines for performing pesticide mobility tests in the laboratory, aims at identifying and quantifying critical variables in packed soil column leaching tests. For the experimental work, three typical Danish agricultural soils and three model pesticides (mecoprop, isoproturon and atrazine) were selected. It is demonstrated that variables such as soil pretreatment and column packing method, column conditioning and eeutionelution flow rate etc. can significicantly influence both the leaching profile and the total amount of pesticide leached in soil column leaching tests.
