Mesocosm experiments in the approval procedure for pesticides

A critical analysis based on published aquatic mesocosm experiments with pesticides examined to what extent the sensitivity of organisms was influenced by: (1) mesocosm characteristics (e.g. volume, depth, sediment), (2) when (season) and where (latitude) the experiments were carried out, (3) which taxonomic and functional groups were the most sensitive to insecticides and herbicides and (4) to what extent available single species test results can be used to protect the environment using variå extrapolation procedures
