Ecotoxicological Assessment of Antifouling Biocides and Nonbiocidal Antifouling Paints

19-06-2000

Antifouling paint for pleasure crafts prevents algae and animals from sticking onto the hull and makes the removal of fouling easy during cleaning. The active substances degrade rapidly and will scarcely accumulate in the environment contrary to organic tin substances. Antifouling paint containing no biocides is an experimental alternative to the use of biocides. In a leachate test, one of the experimental types of paint showed effects on algae and crustaceans.
